Bob Bruss was a well respected real estate columnist that passed away recently. I always read his real estate mailbag in the Sunday SF Chronicle and I usually agreed with what he said. Benny L. Kass has done a pretty good job of filling in Bob’s big shoes and so I continue to read the column.

In the November 25th edition of the Mailbag, a reader wrote in to ask about the the new law that allows you to deduct PMI on your taxes on mortgages that originated in 2007. This was the first I had heard of this new law, certainly it slipped by me. I have one mortgage that has PMI that did originate in 2007, but I wondered whether I could deduct it as it is a rental property.

Turns out, that no, I can’t. Check out this blog for more.
